Is Eyeliner Toxic? You Can Use A Glitter Mix

Makeup has existed from ancient times, but have you stopped to wonder: "Is eyeliner toxic for me?" Well, in the wrong hands and with a bad technique, sure, the answer is definitely yes. However, you don't have to forego your favorite eye-makeup. And you can even add a little bit of Bioglitter in the process for a more beautiful effect.

Eyeliner and mascara can truly be a woman's best friend. Nothing is more feminine than enhancing your eyes and even adding some eyeshadow or glitter mix in the process. However, with makeup comes great responsibility (we are not kidding).

Some may think that we are blowing this out of proportion, but eyeliner demands good habits and top-notch hygiene. Otherwise, you are leaving the door open for irritation, redness, and infections. And if you add glitter, you could end up with a severe corneal abrasion.

But you don't have to worry anymore. We have a few good tips for eye-safe makeup and a sparkly yet biodegradable option of glitter mix for you to try on.

Is Eyeliner Toxic?

Eyeliner could hurt your eyes. It won't kill you, but you could get pink eye, infections, or vision disruption. Eye makeup has different irritating particles that could end up inside your eyes.

In general, applying your eyeliner to the outer part of your eye should be fine. The probabilities of having make-up migration are lower. However, having a foreign object inside your eyes could bring you problems.

For that reason, we have come up with a few tips on how to apply eye-safe makeup like a pro!

The Three-Month Rule

Eyeliners and mascaras have a shelf life. It usually can go from 6 months to a year. However, to ensure eye safety, it is better to toss your makeup after three months.

Even though the product may seem perfect, these liquid products offer a moist and comfy environment for bacteria and fungus to grow. So, if you want to avoid pink eye, you better use eye makeup for a limited time.

Waterlining Is a Big No-No

This is a very important rule. In the eyelid's margins, we have oil glands called "Meibomian glands."

When we apply eyeliner directly to the inside of the lash line, we have a big chance of blocking these glands and affecting the tear film that usually lubricates our eyes. This could cause a tear that evaporates too quickly, better known as "dry eye."

Also, when applying makeup to the waterline, there is an increase in 15-30% of eyeliner particles ending up inside the eyes, which can be highly irritating and cause infection.

Additionally, when applying the eyeliner, say with a pencil, we could directly damage the surface of the eye (Ouch!).

Look Out for Bad Ingredients

You should stay away from parabens, formaldehyde, BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), talc, and black carbon. These substances act as colorants and preservatives but could lead to irritation and cancer with continuous exposure.

New call-to-action

Don't Share!

When it comes to makeup, following a No-Sharing policy is best to avoid spreading bacteria.

Use Allergen-Free Cosmetics

Always look for all-natural, non-irritating eyeliners, especially if you suffer from allergies or have sensitive eyes.

Contact Lenses and Mascara Are Not a Great Duo

In itself, wearing contact lenses increases the chances of infection. And if your eye makeup hygiene is poor, you double the chances. So, if you want to make it work, you have to be extra careful.

Say NO to Putting on Mascara While Driving

This is not just a piece of safe driving advice. A sudden hit on the brakes, and you could end up with the mascara applicator in the eye, literally! Apart from being painful, this could cause you something more serious, like a corneal abrasion.

You Don't Have to Say NO to Glitter Mix

Any ophthalmologist would tell you that you shouldn't apply glitter mix as makeup. After all, it could fall off, ending up inside your eyes, causing you irritation, itchiness, or infection.

However, you don't have to give up your sparkle. With Bioglitter, you get an allergen-free, safe-eye glitter.

Also, it complies with global cosmetics regulations for use on skin, eyes, and lips, such as:

  • European Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009 (Europe)

  • FDA Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 21 (USA)

  • Korean Cosmetic Products Act (KPCA), 2000 (Korea)

  • Industrial Chemicals Act 1998 and Cosmetic Standards 2007 (Australia)

  • Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics 2015 (China)

  • Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare Ordinance No. 126 in 2003 (Japan)

These features make Bioglitter a cosmetic grade and safe product! More specifically, Bioglitter PURE is perfect to use on the skin. It has a soft and silky feel, which makes it softer and more comfortable than regular glitter.

So, to amp up your eye makeup, you just have to choose Bioglitterapply some primer to your eyelids, and dab the product carefully. You can use a flat brush for more precision, and et; voila, you get a perfect sparkly look that will be the envy of all!

Bioglitter is Eye-Safe and Eco-Friendly!

Bioglitter is not only a cosmetic-grade product, safe for you to use. When choosing Bioglitter, you are saying yes to protecting the planet.

Bioglitter is the world's first 100% plastic-free glitter. It is made from eucalyptus wood core instead of plastic. So, when using Bioglitter, you are doing your part in diminishing microplastics pollution worldwide, especially in our oceans.

Indeed, Bioglitter decomposes like a leaf in nature, leaving absolutely no traces.  It degrades at 90% as fast as four weeks, depending on the environmental conditions.

Indeed, our Bioglitter holds the OK Biodegradable WATER certification by TÜV. However, many glitter brands claim to be eco-friendly when they might be compostable or just lying about their product's nature.

For a glitter to be deemed biodegradable, it must pass the freshwater test and show the results to prove it!

Compostable glitter IS NOT BIODEGRADABLE. It needs special facilities with precise conditions of temperature and bacteria for the glitter to degrade, which is impossible in real nature.

So now you know, you just have to use Bioglitter! You can make fantastic eye makeup looks without fear of getting any eye irritation or infection. Also, you can give yourself a pad in the back because you will also be helping the planet with this environmentally friendly glitter.
