Why Bioglitter® Is the Only Glitter That Truly Reduces Plastic — And Where to Buy It

✅ The Only Glitter Compliant with the New EU Legislation Against Microplastics

Bioglitter® is the first and only glitter that follows the super-strict EU 2023/2055 Microplastic Regulation. That means:

  • Biodegradable (tested and proven ✅) – passed the OECD301 test, which checks if something breaks down naturally in freshwater—just like it would in a river or lake.

  • Contains >99% Compliant polymers

❓ Why Is Biodegradable Glitter No Longer Enough?

In the past, people thought "biodegradable" was all we needed, but that word alone doesn't guarantee safety for the environment.

Some biodegradable products break down only in industrial settings (like super-hot composting facilities), not in nature. Plus, many so-called biodegradable glitters still contain a significant amount of ‘plastic’ i.e., non-compliant polymer and don’t follow the new EU laws against microplastics. The EU microplastic legislation closes the loophole that a biodegradable particle can still contain ‘plastic polymers’ by setting the minimum level for compliant/non-microplastic polymers to greater than 99% of the polymer contained in the particle.

Bioglitter® goes way further. It’s proven to break down in natural freshwater and contains > 99% natural and biodegradable, compliant polymers, which is now required by the EU’s strict new rules.

So just being “biodegradable” isn’t enough anymore. It has to be tested, verified and compliant with the law — like the one and only Bioglitter®.

🧪 Lab-Proven. Award-Winning. Patent-Protected

Bioglitter® isn’t just a cool idea, it’s a patented invention (yes, legally protected) in both Europe and the U.S.

It’s also the only glitter brand in the world that has achieved TÜV OK Biodegradable WATER certification from TÜV Austria. This was the ultimate badge of eco-trust, which has now been surpassed with the EU 2023/2055 legislation and its requirement to have >99% of polymer content to be natural and biodegradable polymers.

🌍 Bioglitter® Logo Trusted Worldwide

Official Bioglitter® is only made by one company—Sigmund Lindner GmbH in Germany. The Bioglitter® logo is recognized, trademark protected around the world and appears on eco-conscious products in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. It’s your proof of authenticity and differentiates it from all other ubiquitous glitter products, helping people identify the real, official Bioglitter®, certified, plant-based sparkle.

⚠️ Beware inferior and non-compliant products trying to pass off as official Bioglitter®

🏆 15+ Years of Research & Innovation

This isn’t some overnight trend. Bioglitter® took over a decade to develop and has won multiple awards for innovation at top global cosmetic shows:

  • In-Cosmetics Global 2017 & 2019 for innovation

  • CPHi Awards (China) 2019 for innovation.

💡 Why the Logo Matters

If you see the Bioglitter® logo on a product, that’s your green flag ✅

It means the glitter inside is authentic, safe, tested, and completely different from anything else out there. Make sure you are purchasing from an approved distributor or reseller, as official Bioglitter® is only available via strictly controlled supply channels.

Bioglitter® is the only branded glitter in the world.

Many so-called "biodegradable glitters" come from unknown sources and often lack proper testing or certification. With Bioglitter®, you can trust that every batch is backed by science. Official distributors and resellers are proud to provide real documentation and test results—so you always know what you’re getting.

🔬 The Bottom Line

With new laws cracking down on microplastic glitter, the big thing that matters now is this:

Other glitters may look the part, ‘talk the talk’, but they just can’t compete, are not compliant, and through simple 3rd-party laboratory testing the true facts are revealed.

Bioglitter® contains over 99% natural, biodegradable ingredients, totally in line with the New EU legislation against microplastics.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION – All biodegradability tests on finished glitter particles are now superseded with the publication of EU microplastic legislation in October 2023.

  • Biodegradable testing of a glitter particle: A glitter can have c.25% ‘plastic’ non-compliant polymer content and pass OECD 301 and a glitter can have c.5% ‘plastic’ non-compliant polymer content and pass TÜV OK Biodegradable WATER
    • Achieving TÜV OK Biodegradable WATER is a harder standalone test/cert than OECD301…
  • HOWEVER, the EU2023-2055 demands that >99% (not even = 99%, it’s less than 99%) of the polymer content in a glitter particle has to be ‘non-microplastic’ i.e. complaint polymer. This is what makes the legislation extremely difficult to achieve.
    • Then once that’s achieved, the next challenge is make it work in application and to still look like traditional glitter!
    • Bioglitter® provides the solution! 😊
    • This is why at Today Glitter we just focus on the EU legislation
and >99% compliant polymer content for our Bioglitter
      ® products.
